The Wine Therapist - Champagne Vs. Franciacorta Vs. Spumante |
Why don't I get into the ring of this hotly debated topic? As a matter of fact, why not ask you for your opinion too? Champagne vs. Cava vs. Franciacorta vs. Spumante is a debate that has been going on for years. So, before I give you my pitch, I’ll start with a bit of background information: I’m very fortunate to have drunk exceptionally great wine with many dear friends, with whom I’ve shared incredible bottles and endless emotions. I’m not bragging, but must say that the Henriot Cuvee Baccarat from 1979, Charles Heidsieck Oenotheque 1989 in three-liiter format, Cristal 1985, among others have left some indelible memories. But, how could I forget the Bellavista Vittorio Moretti 2008 or the Giulio Ferrari Collezione 1995 that I drank a few times and once with Matteo Lunelli? There are good producers and great producers, good bottles and great bottles. However, after so many years of tasting, I think that there are devoted producers on both sides. We can’t forget that the year is long. French, Italian, and Spanish producers are spending 365 days out in the vineyard and then sometimes a full decade in a dark cellar, riddling bottles while transmitting their best vibes and passion on to co-workers and family. Each pass on a small, but precious legacy. So, I call it a tie. The best producers on all sides are giving their best efforts. They win and then we win and together we celebrate a big and unforgettable party!
